ProGuides are the ultimate in pocket reference books for professional rescue, safety and outdoor pursuits, and now you
can carry them on your phone!
Many rescuers are now carrying PDAs and smartphones with the ability to open PDF files and display them at high resolution. By popular demand
we supply all our in-print ProGuide titles in this format, specially designed for optimal small-screen use. The same crystal-clear content and graphics are
used throughout, with full-text searching, interactive bookmarks and zooming. If your PDA or smartphone has PDF-compatible wireless
printer software installed, you can even print pages out!
Any mobile device which can display secured version 1.5 PDFs with embedded fonts and images will work - Adobe Reader LE 2.5
on Windows Mobile and Symbian devices is the recommended application. Of course the eBook will also run on any laptop or PC.

FAQs
- What devices are supported?
- Anything that can open a version 1.5 PDF with 128-bit security and has a screen capable of rendering text and images. Clearly the bigger
the screen the easier it is to use (we can clearly read the text in full-page view on an iPhone 3G and HTD Touch HD), but very small-screened
devices can of course zoom in to portions of the page as necessary. As explained above, almost all smartphones and pocket PCs have the ability,
either pre-installed or by a downloadable app, to read PDF files. Many can print them via bluetooth or networked printers, using software
such as JETCET Print. Naturally any PC, laptop or tablet running Windows, Linux or MacOS can view the files using a normal version of Adobe
Reader. We strongly suggest you download the sample file (above) to your devices and make sure it works before purchasing a licence.
- What's this "temporary sharing" thing all about?
- We appreciate that ProGuides are an operational tool, and if you're attending an incident where co-rescuers have PDF-compatible devices
but don't have their own copy of ProGuide Mobile, it makes sense to share your copy with them - and lives could depend on it. We do however
have to be a little realistic; this is a product, albeit a low-cost one, and we'd prefer it if people didn't give out copies to all and
sundry without restriction. So the rule is that you can share the eBook (via bluetooth, email, Activesync, etc.) with people while they and
you are dealing with the incident, but those extra copies have to be deleted once the emergency is over.
- On my PC, the graphics look fuzzy compared to the paper book
- They will. The graphics in ProGuide Mobile are designed for small screen display (less than 150 pixels per inch), and with quite low
power processors. Including print-quality graphics would make the file too large and slow to use on many phones, and on some screens the
fine details would be confusing to the device's software, making the images look blurred or speckled. Having said that, the graphics are
still perfectly clear - you can see every detail that matters.
- Where have the casualty forms gone?
- Very few mobile PDF readers support form-filling, and so including the forms and blank pages from some of our ProGuide titles would be
pointless. If you want PDF copies of the casualty assessment forms used in ProGuide USAR Operations, you can download them
as a separate file from our Free Stuff page. In place of the form pages, ProGuide Mobile
has the information (GCS scoring, etc.) in tables, so it's still there for reference.
- What if I want to pay by cheque, bank transfer, purchase order, etc.?
- That's fine - contact us with what you want and your intended payment details, etc. and we'll take it from there. We of course need a
valid email address so we can send the download link when payment clears. If you want a pro-forma invoice, mention it in your message
and we'll email you one right back. Prices for cheque purchases are the same as shown above. We'll email you a download link and password
as soon as the cheque clears. Official orders from fire services, government agencies and the military can be processed on 30-day account
terms. We don't accept card payments via the phone, and some non-standard cards may not be accepted by PayPal - in which case contact us
for help.
