Blog: ProGuide Rope Access and Rescue

We are pleased to announce publication of our new ProGuide Rope Access and Rescue.ProGuide Rope Access and Rescue

Designed for industrial rope access technicians working under ISO 22846 and/or BS 7985, this new pocket reference book includes over 100 pages of essential information.

ProGuide Line Operations has been a mainstay of rope rescue teams for over a decade, and covers a wide range of skills and checklists that are specific to team-based rescue scenarios. Many rope access workers also use it, though by necessity it does not have space to cover all the "personal progression" and workplace legal topics. So we have created a Proguide just for them! Covering legal duties, equipment standards, risk management, standard rope access techniques and rigging, plus complete detail on improvised (colleague) rescue and more advanced access and rescue techniques, such as tripods, stretcher hauling and highlines, it serves as a valuable reminder for workers of all experience levels.

Rope Access and Rescue is less suitable for full-time rescuers, Fire Service or military teams who follow different rules, and to begin with we have published a UK Edition - so is not appropriate for workers operating to other legal frameworks, such as OSHA/NFPA. We plan to release editions for other territories if there is enough customer demand.

Remember, each A6-size coil-bound ProGuide is printed on 100% waterproof paper, which can be repeatedly soaked, washed, scrubbed and sanitized without damage. Unlike many other "waterproof" notebooks, ProGuide paper is produced from polymer film - it can be written on, is resistant to tearing, and will not stick together even after months in a damp pocket.

  • ISO 22846 is a two-part international standard for industrial rope access, last updated in 2012. It defines fundamental principles for a safe system of work, and a code of practice, and the training programs and policies of Irata, FISAT, SPRAT, etc. align with it. As a completely "global" standard it is necessarily vague about some topics and does not cover workplace legal duties.
  • BS 7985 is the UK-only (non-approved) Code of Practice, last updated in 2009 and now also aligned with ISO 22846. Since it refers only to UK work it can go into more detail about legal requirements and equipment standards, but in most cases the suggested working techniques are identical.
